He is 53, married to Lee-Anne, has three sons aged 23, 20 and 17 and lives in Adelaide, South Australia – known commonly as the driest state on the driest continent, Australia. Which isn’t quite true, because Antarctica is, in fact, the driest continent on Earth, having far less rainfall than any other land mass. People and places visited, written about and photographed over the past 30 years cover countries including Turkey, Thailand, Laos, Borneo, Bali, Sri Lanka, Israel, Greece, Britain, Scotland, France, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Singapore, Malaysia, North Korea, South Korea, Tahiti, Fiji, Samoa, India, New Caledonia, Vietnam, New Zealand, Macau, the Philippines, Argentina, Australia, the Falkland Islands and Antarctica. Vincent is a sub editor on a daily metropolitan newspaper, Regional Editor Asia Pacific for Unusual and Unique Hotels of the World and Managing Editor of the online humanitarian photographic gallery travelart.org. He is also past President of the Australian Society of Travel Writers and in 2004, won the Best Travel Feature Award, presented by the Korea National Tourism Organisation, for his feature article on a stay in a South Korean Buddhist temple.

A painting of an actual vision I had in 1997. Lying awake late at night, I saw hands hold up a bronze tablet bearing a spiral engraving of animals. I heard an incantation, possibly in a Native American Language, and then a voice said “prepare to teleport.” Everything went black except for a luminous number six, and I found myself in a bare chamber whose walls glowed slightly, hearing humming machinery. Suddenly waves of energy coursed through my body. Everything went black, and I came to in my own room. I have painted this vision as animal creation spiraling up out of the waters of chaos, held by the hands of the Creator and led by the dove of peace.

A kundu drum solo, Kokoda, in the Owen Stanley Ranges of Papua New Guinea. The kundu drum is the preferred musical instrument of the Koiari people. In fact, in the dense, jungle-clad mountains, there are few other musical instruments – except the the harmonies of villagers; men, women and children – which are truly beautiful.

I spotted this fellow on New Year’s Day, 2010. He was fishing off the pier in Capitola By The Sea, California. I took one look at his face and knew I had to paint his portrait.
When I asked his permission and his name, he told me it was St. Francis.
And while that sounds funny now, I truly believe him. For he inspired much writing, musical compositions and more paintings. Painting this portrait turned in to a profoundly beautiful experience.

Maude McDonald Artist Bio

International and published artist, Maude McDonald, picked up her first paint brush at the age of eight… from a little wooden painter’s box received as a gift (which she still keeps in her studio).

Self taught until the age of 20, she was accepted into the Museum of Fine Arts Academy in Houston. She continued her studies in France and Holland.

“Artists are mercurial. Our two greatest motivators are joy and pain. Emotion, perhaps more than visual stimulation, inspires my work. I want the canvas to speak of our awareness; be it pain, elation, humor, serenity, the surreal, speculation or happiness. Otherwise, it is nothing more than a piece of canvas with colorful brushstrokes.”

Her work is immediately recognized by its strong composition and bold color. She uses the play of light and shadow to inject emotion into her work. Her nudes are often used in surrealistic themes, depicting the human in the most vulnerable and basic existence.

Having studied and practiced all genres of art, her own unique style is a blend of all her favorite aspects of each. Sometimes a simple brush stroke articulates a volume of emotion. Sometimes only the abstract can give voice to what she wants to say.

Her works hang in private homes and businesses throughout North and South America, Mexico and Europe, including governors in the U.S. and Mexico. Although her subjects and genre may change, she remains faithful to the traditional techniques she learned early in her career.

“Creativity is limited only by the imagination”… Maude McDonald
